Resources for New Students

Mikenet is our campus network. Your Mikenet login includes access to campus email, network storage, lab computers, library resources, course applications, networked printers, streaming TV, and wireless computing. As a new student at Saint Michael’s, your technology account will be vital to your success during your time here. As a new student, you will receive a mailing detailing your account information.

The College’s Student Laptop Program offers Dell and Apple laptops with 4 years of hardware warranty, accidental damage protection, Microsoft Office, anti-virus software and 4 years of on-site technical support. Click here for full details about the program.

Email Notices – The IT department sends email messages using one of two addresses, “Office of Information Technology” (theofficeofinformationtechnology@smcvt.edu) or “ITHelp”(ithelp@smcvt.edu). We will never ask you for your password or username, or use a different email address; if you receive a suspicious email, it’s likely a phishing scam! Suspicious email should be reported to the Helpdesk by forwarding the email to ithelp@smcvt.edu. Watch your email for instructions from the Office of Information Technology on how to register your computer.

mySMC is the campus portal, where you will be able to access all of your academic accounts in one place. Your portal login is your Mikenet username and password. Use your portal login to reach the following services:

  1. Your College email account. Your email includes 25GB of mail storage. Please regularly check this email address as this is the address which will be used this summer and throughout your time at St. Michael’s to send important information, updates, etc.
  2. Canvas, the official course management system at Saint Michael’s. All instructors post their syllabus on Canvas, and many of them use its other features, including the gradebook, assigning homework, and class discussions.
  3. KnightVision is a Web-based tool that provides you with real-time information about your class schedules, grades and standing in relation to degree requirements. You can use KnightVision to look up schedules of class offerings and–during defined registration periods–to register for classes.
