How Long Have You Been at SMC
9 Years

Role in the IT Department
In the department my role is to aid faculty staff and students in connecting their college related work to current and emerging technologies that are advantageous to the end product. Often times there is focus primarily on the vision or primarily on the technology and it takes an individual (or team) to help make a marriage in between the vision and the technology.

How Did You End Up in IT
I ended up in IT when I was recruited by Rick Leggett. The plan was for me to work in IT Media Services in the summer of 2007 but it turned into a work study position that I would have throughout the remainder two years of my college career. In March 2009 of my senior year I was offered a full time position as a Multimedia Desktop Manager and the rest is history.

Technological Advice To Our Community
My technological advice to the community is to understand that it’s important to build a vision and an action plan before deciding what technology one will use (or if it is even needed).

If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up people together to collect wood and don’t assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea.

– Antoine de Saint Exupéry

What’s Your Best Technology Time-Saving Shortcut Or Life Hack?
The best time saving technology I use is the Outlook Calendar. It helps to keep me organized, on time and helps others to know when I am available. Time management and organization is the ultimate life hack.

Anything Else You Would Like To Share
It is important to reflect. Reflection is ultimately what turns work into service for one’s community.
